Sharp LC32SH20U 32" LCD TV

Amazon.com Product Description

Distinctively designed for an attractive centerpiece to any room, the 32-inch Sharp LC32SH20U LCD HDTV will also provide exceptional HDTV and home theater entertainment for years to come, thanks to its 60,000-hour long life screen. You'll enjoy highly detailed colors and amazing depth of picture as well as appreciate its slim footprint. It has a built-in ATSC tuner that pulls HD signals right from the airwaves (via an optional antenna), and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. It comes with its own tabletop stand, and it can also be wall-mounted via optional hardware.

This set features a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution for a true 16:9 aspect ratio--perfect for watching your favorite widescreen movies in the format they were intended. It has a high 450 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, which provides a vivid picture even when placed near windows, doors, or other light sources. It also offers a 170-degree viewing angle so everyone in the room can enjoy the picture, a 12 ms (millisecond) response time (which helps fast moving video not appear jaggy), and an 800:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

It has two bottom-mounted stereo speakers that produce 10 watts of total audio power (5 watts per channel). Other connection options include:

  • Composite AV (RCA): 2 in
  • S-Video: 1 in
  • Component Video: 1 in
  • HDMI: 1 in
  • RF: 1 in
  • Total analog audio in: 4
  • Analog audio out: 1
  • Digital optical: 1 out

Tech Talk
HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars EASY TO SET UP, VIVID COLORS, CLEAR PICTURE ON HD CHANNELS!, September 1, 2006

UPDATE: August 22, 2007--We now have DISH Sat Service and the HD Box and lots of HD Channels. This set is just wonderful. No problems after one year of ownership. The picture is very clear on all channels, HD or regular. And, this TV should last for years! When I do buy another HD TV, I will get a LARGER one about 48" and maybe plasma. However, the LCD is just fine.

First, let me share my experience. I wanted an HDTV, and FLAT panel LCD, not a plasma TV. However, I knew little or nothing about the LCD HD's. After thinking about buying one for months and looking at them in the stores, I asked the salesman which was the most simple one to set up and use. He suggested the Sharp. Since I liked the picture, I bought the Sharp. First, I had this connected to CABLE and a special HD box and I did not like the reception on the cable hookup. Then, I switched to satelite service, and quit my cable company. What a differnce in the picture, night and day difference, now I am in love... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome TV, June 13, 2006
This review is from: Sharp LC32SH20U 32-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner (Electronics)
Ok, I have been looking for a flat TV for a few weeks now and I finally found it. This sharp is a great TV. It has a stunning picture, good sound, and nice features. The picture when hooked up to HD cable is crystal clear. Not a bunch of pixels like you see on some TV's. It also has rich vivid colors. Ths sound is good, but better with surround hooked up. It does have SRS and WOW effect and other things to help it out.It also has different picture modes like movies,sports....etc. and different temp. changes like warm, medium, cool. I did a little research and found that sharp makes some of the best TV's. So if your looking for a great TV check out the sharp it really is a great TV, and the price wasn't too bad either........Oh and remember this an HDTV and like any other HDTV it only looks stunning with HD cable =)

This has terrible motion blur in fast-moving scenes (or even medium-speed scenes), due to its high 12ms pixel response time. It is also very difficult to see detail in low-lit scenes, due to its 800:1 contrast ratio. In dark scenes, distinguishing what is going on is impossible. This TV was a huge disappointment. After doing much research, I have learned that you need 8ms or lower pixel response time to avoid motion blur on LCDs and contrast ratio at least 10,000:1 (recommended). Try to look for those two features (among others) when choosing an HDTV. This particular Sharp model is very basic. You could find better quality for your money with a different HDTV.
